She sobbed. She dabbed her eyes to prevent the tears from falling.

“I understand you are breaking up with me, and I understand you still love me,” Pamela spurted.

He nodded twice, and kept his face down to the shiny table top.

“What, what,” her voice broke, “what lie will you tell yourself when you see me and your heart skips a beat?” she sniffed.

He looked up and peered into her face.
